WOYWW 218

The first WOYWW of August! Where do the days go? It's still hot in central Florida USA with tons of rain too, this year, which good after the years of draught we've had.

Well, enough of my chit chat...you're snooping stopping by to see what's on my desk. :)

I have started working on a trio of wood squares. Each is a 4"x4" piece of MDF (medium density fiberboard). I've primed them with gesso and started to lay out my substrate for the first piece.

At the back you'll see I've gathered alcohol inks, distress stains and paints. On the right a few brushes and my ultra cheap clear palette. :) On the left is my roll of masking tape, some samples where I've been testing with the a.i. and bits of scrap paper should I need some.

Please join us for a good old fashion looky loo (snoop) at desks and work rooms 'round the world. Julia's blog is the place to go for all the links.

I'm going to try and post early on Tuesday night so I can get back in the studio. Need to work while the mojo is flowing! Have a fab week and I'll be popping in for a visit real soon.

Celebrate!

  1. Oh how funny: looky loo. I'm glad that I'm not the only person who the rains have settled in on. It's a nightly occurrence here. I like the idea of using MDF for art. I never thought of that! Really clever.

  24. Oh, I like your desk and what you have started...those fibers laid across one of the wooden pieces. I spy a little coastal scene too with a lighthouse. Very pretty! Lots of rain here in GA too...just had a downpour again! But, you know, it hasn't been as hot as in the last 2 years I've lived out here. It's August and it's not unbearably hot! Brigita #108

  31. TY for popping by and visiting and your lovely comment. :D I am excited to see your wood tiles when you get them all finished. DH is in construction, and talk of MDF and Substrate is romantic talk for him. I just had to giggle when I was reading those words. It's still pretty warm here in NC as well. I'm not a fan of summer in the South. I hope you have a great weekend. Happy Hump Day!!! (((HUGS)))

  39. Just saw your question about mica powders. From what I could find on the internet, Jacquard's Pearl Ex powders have printed silver labels the pretty much circle the container. However, it also needs a binder, although Ranger's Perfect Pearls do not. It appears they come on cards, but the site froze up on
me when I tried to access the pearls. Maybe you can go there.

My search showed the powders I'm using by LuminArte are no longer available and have been discontinued. Mine definitely have a label on the bottom of the container with the words LuninArte and the name of the powder. Hope that helps. I suspect you got the Perfect Pearls, which needs no binder, but check the Ranger web site to be sure.

  40. Sorry for the delayed comment... but we were out of town on a mini vacation while I took a pan pastel workshop from Donna Downey and just got home late today. Your desk looks like you've been having more fun!! Can't wait to see what you're going to do with the wood squares! Have a good week and I hope the sink holes aren't near you... saw the most recent on the news tonight about the building collapse near Disney. Stay safe!
