WOYWW 208 !!!

WOYWW 4th Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary Ms Julia and WOYWW-ers!

My desk as I leave it in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, shows my  anniversary ATCs that I'm swapping with a few WOYWW friends. I'm not quite done but close, do forgive. (I've been dealing with some serious life issues with a friend.) All that's left is to put my info on the back then they're in the mail or post as some would say. :)
So what do you see?

(info about the pic is below the pics)
On my desk are the finished ATCs, the embossing powder, alpha stamps and my distress stains. And guess what! I took some pics along the way as I was making these! Not exactly a step by step but you'll get the idea of what techniques I've used.

Starting with the wrinkle free distress technique using three colors of blue distress stains and pewter d.s. with some stain splats for additional color. These were cut into ATCs with the TH ATC die.

ATCs with the stamping done using various archival and StazOn inks.

I used a small alpha stamp set to stamp WOYWW and hand printed the number using an embossing pen. These were embossed with white powder. The rising bubbles were colored with an acrylic paint wash and dried. I then used the embossing pen to color inside of them and embossed with clear powder.

A close up of the finished ATCs. I'm thrilled with how they turned out and hope you and the recipients are too.

I am linking up with the Sunday Stamper - embossing powder.
And of course, The Stamping Ground - the world's biggest, best and possibly longest running blog hop! Where we show what's on our crafty/work desks. Pop over to join in the fun of being a "snoop". It's okay, really, and quite addictive too.

I have received one ATC with a do not open till May 29th written on the envelope . . . today it will be opened! I wonder who it is from?

And for those interested, my finished 'Inspired' piece based on a pic of an old sewing machine can be found here or one post below.

Have a great day! For those attending the anniversary crop - eat drink and be crafty!

Happy 4th Anniversary WOYWW!

Inspired by . . .

. . . a picture. i was inspired by a photo of an old singer sewing machine sitting in the weeds by an old barn. the photo was taken by Kay of 505whimsygirl.blogspot.com. the original photo can be seen here and the canvas was started here.

i photocopied the original pic so i wouldn't ruin it and used the photocopy on my canvas piece. i tore around the edges and distressed with vintage photo d.i. the canvas was stained with distress stains; mowed lawn, squeezed lemonade and stormy sky.

the pic was attached to the canvas then the layering began with stamping the leaf branch around the pic. adding embossing paste through the mini leaves stencil. these leaves were colored with the distress pewter paint but ended up way to silvery and didn't' blend in, so i repainted them with antiqued bronze d.p. now mind you that both times this was done by my shaky hand as, i forgot to mark which way i used the stencil, so i could use it to do the painting. oops!

i'm happy with how my shaky painting turned out. you can just see some of the silver and the original paste at the sides of the leaves. adds extra depth i think. added a few black gems and thought i was done.

mmm, not so fast. the canvas seemed puny needed something to frame it. so shopping in my stash, i found a wood cigar box whose lid made a perfect shadow box frame.  the lid was de-labeled and sanded then painted with two coats of black acrylic paint. i inked the stamp in bronze d.p. and stamped around the outer edges to blend with the bronze leaves on the canvas. attached a hanger to the back and the canvas inside the frame with two types of glue. don't want it falling off. :)

now it's done! i hope you like my altered canvas inspired by a pic.

Thought I would show you some blog candy that I've won.

I was the lucky winner of this really cool necklace that Claire of Decide What You Want , shared as part of her '29th' birthday celebration. The necklace is to die for! So rustic yet so delicate! And look at the fab card she sent with it. Thank you Claire!

Next is some fabulous blog candy from Neil of Neelz Expressionz

These are his designs! How cool is that?! One of his tando book covers, a mask and a cute stamp! And will you just look at the fab card he sent! I'm in love with that mask pic. I already have ideas for these. Stay tuned. :)

(FYI... The blue/green at the top of the card is my charm board in the background)

Have a great week. I'll be popping in through out this week. Leave your number so I can stop by.

Oh! In case, you're wondering what I'm talking about...pay a visit to Ms. Julia at the Stamping Ground.

WOYWW 206

Holy smokes where have the weeks gone? I've been participating in WOYWW for the past seven months! Can you believe this world-wide hop has been going for FOUR YEARS! Congrats to our hostess, Julia. Please visit her blog The Stamping Ground for all the info and links to join us in our snooping desk hopping.

So my desk Tuesday night shows where I've left off working on a piece of canvas covered board. The board you may remember from last weeks WOYWW pic. This week I'll be adding a stencil design with embossing paste, stamping with distress inks and a few other goodies waiting in the wings.

I've used a photocopy of this beautiful pic taken by Kay. The minute I saw this picture card I was inspired and knew I would use it in an altered piece.

I have nine signed up to swap anniversary ATCs! I'll be emailing y'all this week for your snail mail addy, if I don't have it already.

Have a great week everyone!

Celebrate!

evermore. . .

I always thought it was "Nevermore quoth the Raven", well, my raven is saying 'evermore'!

My texture is an embossing folder used on the Artful Dwellings brushed with gesso and the raven has been embossed with distress embossing powder. I flicked off some to leave smooth places and brushed more gesso.  The background has various blues and black soot distress inks blended then spritzed n flick. Love this technique! My saying was stamped with brown stazon ink using a hero arts mini alphabet stamp set.

Submitting to the following challenges:

Anything But A Card - ATCs

Fun With ATCs - Texture

We're having wonderfully warm weather again. (think hi 80s!) And everyone seems to be in a light n bright spring mood except me. Hence, a rather Goth ATC. Hope you enjoy.

Celebrate living!

WOYWW #205!

WOYWW's 4th anniversary is speeding towards us! Mojo don't leave me now...need an idea for my ATCs to swap! For all the details about the swap and other anniversary doings visit Ms Julia at theStamping Ground .

Now on to my desk...a few projects were left last night in the drying stages. Front and center is the piece I started in Andy's Book of Ruination class. I've finally made to the 'ready for the finishing touches' stage! With some of the leftover paint I've coated an ATC with weedy die cut. Plus a few die cuts to spare. I see now I should of grabbed a white piece of card and smooched onto the negative image on the mat. Oh well, I'll peel off this leftover paint and use it for texture on something else.

On the left you'll see a canvas board covered with distress stains, drying. The colors were inspired by the cool pic of the old sewing machine. In fact, see that stack of pics under it? That's the happy mail I received from Kay at 505whimsygirl ! Thank you Kay, I love them.

Just to the left of those is my attempt at faux burnt wood....stay tuned. :)

Have a wonderful day everyone! I'm out and about shopping for new glasses so I can better see all of your amazing work!

Celebrate the life!

Letter 'A'

Here's my entry for the Alpha/Dictionary challenge at the Craft Barn using the letter A this fortnight. I'm also linking up with Hels for her Sunday Stamper - Blue challenge.

My word using the letter A is 'ascend'. So I have attempted to give you the impression of rising up out of the water. Ah, but maybe we're still in the water? My inspiration came from the Yellow Submarine video.

My page was swiped through distress stains; salty ocean and stormy sky. Once dry I stamped splotches uses distress metallic stain and distress metallic paint in tarnished pewter. The distress paint actually adds a bit of texture when dry. For added texture I've used a varying sized circle stencil and translucent embossing paste. Over this base I've stamped the hot air balloon from a new prima set and the rising bubbles from designs by ryn. These are so cool! I need to practice adding white to them and get a decent white pen (on order now).  Along the bottom we have the balloons rising up out of a bit of wispy seaweed.  I'm not to happy with my distressing on the edges, I should of used black. Oh well, a journal is for learning by making mistakes and so I learn.

Celebrate ... it's the weekend!

hope you can see the translucent bubbles

this shows the distress stain and paint better in the tarnished pewter.

Supplies: distress metallic stains and paint, distress ink, archival ink, stamps: prima and designs by ryn,

WOYWW 204

Holy smokes! Isn't the 4th anniversary of WOYWW on week 208?! That's an amazing feat, Julia! Bet it has grown some in those years, huh?! :)  Need some insight about this phenomenon? Pop over to Julia's Stamping Ground blog for all the deets and links to crafty desks around the world.

I need to print some of the WOYWW logos for my ATCs and then get them made. Let me know in your comments if you would like to swap. I'll swap with the first twelve who leave a note in their comment. :)

On to my crafty desk....all kinds of stuff going on as I'm working on my Craft Barn Alpha/Dictionary challenge. Our letter this fortnight is 'A'.  Although I don't see the blog updated yet. One of the DTs had the info on their blog yesterday.

So on my desk, there's distress inks, metallic stains and the new metallic paint. Some new Prima stamps and other bits and bobs. I've covered my page so I don't show too much before it's posted.

Enjoy your snoop. I'll be snooping some tonight and then on Friday. Thursday is my first class for May. Is it May already? I think I lost April would someone send it back .... please!

Celebrate life!

Oh almost forgot! We went to the Leesburg Bikefest last weekend. Now this is a Bikefest! Leesburg knows how to throw a party, they close off 4 square blocks downtown for bikes only. Tried to get some pics to show the crowd and all the bikes. Main Street had three rows of bikes. A row on each side and one down the middle.

Four blocks of foot peg to foot peg...BIKES!

Still lots of tourists but fewer than at Daytona

20' of clear sidewalk! Didn't last long :)

Next is Octoberfest. :)
